NOTES
Motif Chart: If you plan to print this pattern to work offline, please download the full-size Maple Leaf Motif chart before you begin. The chart image provided in the digital gallery is optimized for mobile viewing (tap the image to zoom) and will print too small to read comfortably.
Choose Your Size: If you are making for yourself or have access to the recipient, measure their exact head circumference and type that number into the generator for a bespoke fit. If you are knitting a gift and can't measure the recipient, simply type in the circumference for their age group found in the Head Size Standards chart.
Double-Layered Brim: The brim is knit to the specified length and folded in half. The live stitches are then joined to the cast-on edge to create a double layer. The body of the hat is worked upward from this joined edge.

##DUPLICATE STITCH MOTIF
^^ Materials: Tapestry needle, 10 yds Colour B
Before folding your brim, you will work the maple leaf motif onto the live stockinette tube.
This embroidery technique mimics knitted stitches, allowing you to add the maple leaf motif to the hat brim.
Download and refer to the Motif Chart (larger print version).

Using Colour B, work {Duplicate Stitch (https://www.poppyshop.ca/post/duplicate-stitch)} over the designated stitches.
The markers from round 56 indicate the edges of chart row 1, with 22 stitches between them.
^These markers have been placed to perfectly center your motif on the front of the hat, exactly opposite your Beginning of Round marker.
Follow the numbering on the chart, working each row in the direction indicated.
Each square on the chart represents one stitch.
Ensure your duplicate stitches are worked with even tension to maintain a smooth finish.

##FOLD & JOIN BRIM
Fold the brim inwards, aligning the working needle stitches with the provisional cast-on edge, wrong sides together.
Begin by carefully unraveling the first stitch of the provisional cast-on to expose the live loop.
Knit the first stitch from the working needle together with the first exposed live loop from the provisional cast-on edge, then unravel a small section of the waste yarn to expose the next live stitch. Repeat across all stitches, matching each working needle stitch with the corresponding live loop.
## HAT BODY
Rnds 1-{BODY_ROUNDS} (RS): k around.
^ On the last round, divide the crown into 6 equal sections of {SECTION_STS} stitches each, placing markers to separate each section. Slip markers as you reach them going forward.
## CROWN
^^ Change to DPNs or your preferred small-circumference method (like magic loop) when the stitches become too tight for your circular needle.
Round A (RS): k2tog, k to next marker around. (dec of 6 sts)
Round B (RS): k around. (st count remains the same)
Rep Rnds A & B until 24 sts remain.
Rep Round A once (18 sts remain).
### FINISHING
Fasten off, leaving an 8" (20cm) tail and thread it through the remaining 18 stitches 4-6 times to secure.
Weave in the ends and block for a polished finish.
