NOTES
Choose Your Size: Because this is a Smart Pattern™, you can choose your exact fit! If you are making this for yourself or have access to the recipient, measure their exact chest circumference and type that number into the generator for a bespoke fit. Alternatively, you may choose an input from the Size Standards Chart.
Construction: This garment is crafted from the top down, beginning with the yoke, which is worked vertically using a short-row technique. The body is then crocheted separately and attached to the yoke through seaming. Afterward, the side straps are created independently and sewn onto the cross-body panel.
Stitch Multiples & Numbering: * If a number comes before the abbreviation (e.g., 2hdc), stitch the given number into the same stitch to create an increase. If the number is placed after the abbreviation (e.g., hdc 2), work the given stitch across the subsequent number of stitches.
Right Side / Wrong Side: This pattern alternates between Right Side (RS) and Wrong Side (WS) rows. The texture of the ribbed stitches will look different on each side, so you can easily "read your fabric" to know which side you are working on.
Gauge is Magic: Because you are using a Smart Pattern generator, you don't have to stress about perfectly matching my original gauge! Simply crochet a 6x6" (10cm) swatch in the pattern repeat (bean stitch ribbing), measure how many stitches and rows fit into 4 inches, and type your exact gauge into the generator. The math will automatically adjust your yardage and stitch counts for whatever yarn you are using!
HOW TO SWATCH
Row 1 (RS): Foundation single crochet (fsc) an odd number of stitches until your piece measures at least 7” [18cm] long unstretched, turn.
Row 2 (WS): Ch1, sc, [bsblo, scblo] until last 2 sts, bsblo, sc, turn.
Row 3 (RS): Ch1, sc, scblo across until one st remains, sc, turn.
Row 4 onward: Repeat rows 2-3 until your swatch reaches at least 6" (15cm) in height to ensure the best accuracy.

##YOKE FINISH
Row 10 onward: Repeat rows 2-9 until you reach a total row count of {YOKE_TOTAL_ROWS}.
The final row of your work should be row 8 of the 2-9 pattern repeat. Once you reach the correct row count, bind off leaving a tail long enough for seaming (approximately twice the height of the yoke).
### YOKE SEAM
Fold the yoke in half, bringing the first and last rows together. Make sure the WS is facing out. Using your yarn tail and a tapestry needle, whip stitch the two edges together to form a tube. Do not fasten off.
### NECK OPENING EDGING
Turn the yoke RS out. Attach your yarn to the back of the neck opening (near the seam).
Round 1: Treating each row as if it were 1 st: Slst loosely around. Slst to the first st to join. ({NECK_EDGE_STS} sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
###BOTTOM YOKE EDGING
Attach your yarn to the bottom edge of the yoke, near the back seam.
Round 1: {BOTTOM_EDGE_TEXT}. Sl st to the first hdc to join. ({BOTTOM_EDGE_STS} sts)
Do not fasten off.
### BODY PANEL PLACEMENT
Lay your yoke flat with the seam centered at the back. You will attach the body panel directly to the bottom edging of the yoke.
Positioning the Front: Pin the top edge of your body panel (the wide row ends) so it is perfectly centered across the front of the yoke.
Positioning the Back: Wrap the panel diagonally across the body and under the arm. Pin the side edge of your body panel (the narrower starting chain) so it is perfectly centered across the back of the yoke.
Adjust your pins so the panel fits comfortably, leaving an even number of unworked stitches on both sides to serve as your armholes.
Thread a tapestry needle with your yarn tail and sew the front and back edges directly to the yoke, working around the posts of the stitches.

##CROSS-BODY PANEL
{PANEL_DYNAMIC_ROWS}
## ATTACH BODY PANEL TO YOKE
###SURFACE SLIP STITCH TO ATTACH (COMPLETE ON FRONT AND BACK)
(RS): Align the unworked edges of the body panel with the stitch markers on both the front and back of the yoke. The last round of the yoke should overlap the unworked single crochets on the body panel. Pin in place. If you added extra rows to the body panel, make sure the unworked edge is evenly distributed on either side of the stitch markers.
You may orient the body panel so that it is positioned on either the right or left side of the body (just flip it over, keeping the right sides facing outward).
Surface slip stitch (s-slst) quite loosely to attach the yoke to the body panel, working into the last round of the yoke and the unworked edge of the body panel. Fasten off & weave in ends.
###EDGING (COMPLETE ON Right & Left)
(RS): Draw yarn up in either of the stitch marker stitches of the small arm hole opening. Ch1, hdc around, join, fasten off.
Repeat the previoius instructions, but for the large body opening on the opposite side of the garment.
## SIDE WAIST STRAP (MAKE 2)
Row 1 (RS): Leaving a 20" (51cm) tail, fsc {STRAP_STS}, turn. ({STRAP_STS} sts)
Row 2 (WS): Ch1, sc, [bsblo, scblo] until 2 sts remain, bsblo, sc, turn. ({STRAP_STS} sts)
Row 3 (RS): Ch1, sc, scblo until 1 st remains, sc, turn. ({STRAP_STS} sts)
Row 4-{STRAP_ROWS}: Repeat rows 2-3, until you reach a row count of {STRAP_ROWS}. Fasten off leaving a 20" (51cm) tail for seaming.
^For a tailored fit across body shapes, modify the strap lengths as needed to ensure a close, secure fit.
### SEW SIDE STRAPS TO CROSS-BODY PANEL
(RS): Orient the side straps along the cross body panel with placement as shown in the photo, or as desired.
Place stitch markers on the edge of the cross body panel to mark each end of the {STRAP_STS} sts of the side straps to mark their placement. Make sure to place them identically on both sides of the cross body panel.
Using the tail ends, slst to attach the straps to the body panel (using the same method that was used to attach the cross-body panel to the yoke). Complete this on both the front and back sides of the cross-body panel.
Test for fit to ensure you are satisfied with the strap placement and length before weaving in the ends.
###FINISHING
Weave in all loose ends and steam or wet block for a polished finish.
