MACHINE KNIT PATTERN: A quick beginner friendly project perfect for practicing latch tool stitch reforming technique.
SKILL LEVEL: Basic.
KNITTING MACHINE: Bulky knitting machine required (sample was knit with a brother KH230).
YARN: Approximately 70 yards of worsted weight yarn.
GAUGE: 19 stitches & 28 rows = 4” set at tension 3.
EXTRAS:
Tapestry needle
Two 3 prong tools.
SIZES: adult (customizable). For best fit, choose a size 1-2”/2.5-5cm smaller than head circumference.
PATTERN NOTES
The final measurements of the ear warmer should be approximately 20 inches in circumference & 4.25 inches in width after steam blocking. You can easily add or decrease the Row 10-15 repeat in order to make the ear warmer smaller or larger in circumference respectively.
The ear warmer was knit on a Bulky Machine (Sample knit with a Brother KH 230)

BODY
E-wrap cast on 24 st’s (L12 -0- R12), K1 row.
*Leave a 20 inch tail (this will be used for seaming later)

R2-5: k4 rows, reform L6-L9, L2-R2, R7-R10 with a latch tool.

R6-9: k4 rows, reform L3-L6, R3-R6 with a latch tool.

R10-ONWARD: Repeat rows 2-9 until you reach row 137.

R138: k1 row, bind off, weave in ends.

TWISTED SEAM
(WS) With the wrong sides of your work facing you, fold each end piece equally in half lengthwise so that the right sides are touching each other. Viewing the edges from the top, slide them together in an interlocking “C” fashion. Thread your 20 inch tail with a tapestry needle and sew the edges together.


CHART

Note: If you are only referring to the chart while knitting (and not the written instructions), you will continue to repeat rows 2-9 until you reach row 137. All the knit stitches shown in the chart will be formed with a latch tool after you knit 4 rows at a time (starting on row 2), then k1 row across for the final row (Row 138), bind off and continue to the twisted seam instructions.
